Introduction to Unit G324

This is the first post for my A2 Media Studies Unit G324 Advanced Portfolio project work.

The purpose of this unit is firstly to assess my ability to plan and construct media products using appropriate technical and creative skills (AO3); secondly to assess my ability to apply knowledge and understanding in evaluating my own work, showing how meanings and responses are created (AO2); and finally to assess my ability to undertake, apply and present appropriate research (AO4).

The unit requires me to engage with contemporary media technologies, giving me the opportunity to develop my own skills in these technologies. It also enables me to develop the skills of presentation that are required for further study at higher levels and in the workplace.

As part of this task I will be expected to demonstrate excellence in the creative use of most of the following technical skills:

  • Shooting material appropriate to the task set; including controlled use of the camera, attention to framing, variety of shot sizes and close attention to mise-en-scène.
  • Editing so that meaning is apparent to the viewer and making selective and appropriate use of shot transitions, captions and other effects.
  • Recording and editing sound with images appropriately.
