Ancillary 1 – Drafting Billboard Advertisements
This is my original plan which I scanned into the computer after drawing up a quick sketch.
Step 1 – I decided to use my other photography and used the black and white image as I thought the bright masthead I plan on having will contrast well with the colours.
STEP 2 – I then decided to pastiche the Masthead from my front cover magazine; this is the magazine I am advertising. Then I decided to change the font colour from grey to black.
STEP 3- I’ve decided to make the magazine billboard simple with the logo, a simple line and the magazine placed below to ensure it is clear to the audience what the billboard is advertising.
STEP 4- I’ve decided to experiment with bright yellow banners and black text which contrasts well.
STEP 5 – I decided to use the black and white image again and used the clone tool to ensure the fence finished to the end of the billboard and ensure a nice finish.
STEP 6 – I then decided to pastiche the idea of using bright colours, such as yellow onto the black and white
STEP 7 – I then changed the banner colour and placed the Twitter and Facebook links as many people own phones with both social networking site apps, therefore quick access
STEP 8 – I then decided to change the colour scheme to black, white and bright yellow; similar to colours used within the magazine.

I then made the text to the right using the align tool so the text is incline and looks more professional.

I decided to restart the advertisement as I gained more inspiration from other regional magazines. I used the rectangle tool and changed the colour using the bucket tool then set the opacity to 14% so the main advertisement image is visible. I then rotated the rectangle to give a slope where I would add the white text.

I’ve decided to do two advertisements for the same boutique and use the same model but have a winter/autumn edition

I decided to add ‘NEW ARRIVALS AUTUMN 2014’ as I had taken inspiration from other boutique advertisements.

I decided that the model needed some colour in her cheeks, therefore I used the pain brush on used the colour bright pink but changed the opacity then placed on the cheeks

The next step was the make it look more professional and I did this by placing it in the far bottom left.

I then inversed the initials which would make the initials stand out more upon

I then placed the circle above the ‘P.B’ initials then changed the opacity to 36% which would allow the initials to be shown

I decided that the initials ‘P.B’ need to stand out more, therefore I decided to use the circle tool and then fill it using the paint bucket tool to create the final circle. I then decided to place the circle behind the initials ‘P.B’

I decided to move the Pilgrim’s boutique on the bottom right rather than the left. I then decided to add a new layer to help with my progression.

I decided not to use the clone tool to ensure there were no dark circles as I made no progress. I also used the burn tool to make her hair look darker. After using the burn tool, I decided that I would leave the hair a darker colour.

I then used the clone tool to ensure the model has a youthful look, therefore tried to get rid of the black circles under her eyes to make sure she looks flawless.

I used the burn tool to make the picture brighter by ensuring the hair colour

Secondly. I decided that the hair needed to look more healthy and made the models appearance look more youthful by using the dodge a blur tool in Photoshop.
STEP 1 –
Firstly, I decided to use the image of my beautiful model who is posed with direct eye contact to the camera- this targets the audience with direct mode of address which will grab their attention to the advertisement.
I decided to place the image into Photoshop where It would enable me to edit the model and enhance the best feature that the model has to offer which also shows ideal self/partner (Carl Rodgers) and also Male gaze (Laura Mulvey).
Drafting of the contents page
STEP 1 – The first step was to type the main masthead for the contents page
STEP 2 – I then decided to add some decoration beside the main ‘contents’ title.
STEP 3 – I then decided to add the logo of my magazine beside the contents page which would keep the theme.
STEP 4 – I then placed ‘sheffields listing below both the contents and the sheffield logo.
STEP 5 – I then used the ellipse tool and created the red circle which has the issue number in
STEP 6 – I then placed the main photography for the contents page on the far right page just below the red circle.
STEP 7 – I then placed the other photography exactly where I wanted it to be placed using the rulers and ensure they are in line with one another.
STEP 8 – I then used the colour scheme of red, white and black, therefore created some blocks where I would place each page number.
STEP 9 – I then chose the numbers for each article and placed ‘features’ in the small red block
STEP 10 – I then added the remaining number pages fore the magazine and ensured they was placed in the centre of each red box.
STEP 11 – I then wrote up all the article contents and their pages.
STEP 12 – This is the first draft, I will still need to ensure all the text is aligned accurately
I gained feedback and the response I gained was that the contents looks similar to over magazines, therefore I’ve decided to restart my contents and make it look much more original.
STEP 13 – I decided to restart the contents page and place photography on the left page then place the remaining photography on the right page.
STEP 14 – I then placed ‘contents’ in the foreground of the main black and white photography.
STEP 15 – I then made it easier for myself and pastiche the article contents from the previous contents page I had made.
STEP 16 – I then needed to add more article contents onto the contents page as the text was too big previously, therefore I made the font few sizes smaller which left white space on the page.
STEP 17 – I then decided to add banners on the bottom left side of the page and use direct mode of address ‘Love s magazine?’ which would make the readers question and think about what they are reading. I decided to then change the colour scheme to light grey, white and black to match the photography on the left side of the page. As technology is used daily by readers, I decided to ensure they can gain access to the latest news and gossip from S magazine by visiting the social networking sites Twitter and Facebook.
STEP 18 – I then decided to add the remaining article contents and the photography that I had taken.
STEP 19 – I then finally added the page number and the date line above the contents page which is very conventional.

Drafting the Double Page Spread
STEP 1- To start off, I needed to ensure that I had measured all the original magazine measurements to
STEP 2- I decided to insert the picture I want for my double page spread and chosen the black and white as I gained inspiration from other magazines.
STEP 3-I decided to then add colour and text onto the double page spread
STEP 4- I decided to create a new document and experiment with other images as the one I have chosen seems poor quality
Step 5- I decided to look through a range of fonts using In Design to see which would best suit my magazine
STEP 1- I decided to experiment and use the other photography I could use for the double page spread.
Step 2- After gaining feedback from my teacher, I decided to use a different image and layout for the double page spread.
Step 3 – I then placed the flag into Photoshop
STEP 4 As my main headline will be ‘Yorkshire Lass Tours Canada’; I thought it would be a good idea to find a Canada flag and use Photoshop.
STEP 5 – I decided to add the canada flag into Photoshop and place it behind the ‘Sheffield Lass Tours Canada’ to also fit in with the canadian theme.
STEP 6 – I decided to creat my main text on Photoshop.
STEP 7 – I then decided to write up my article on the right side of the page.
STEP 8 – I then decided to place the leafs onto the right side of the page to link in with the ‘Sheffield Lass Tours Canada’
STEP 9 – I then added the leaves onto the double page spread which gives it an effect of leaves falling
STEP 10 – As I am no longer using the image on the left as my front cover image, I thought it would be a great idea to use it as my double page spread article.
STEP 11 – I decided to have a big sized font ‘LEX’ on the top right side of the page. I decided to give my star ‘Alex’ a nick name of ‘LEX’ which would make it look more edgy
STEP12 – As the models name is called Alex, I thought I would use a three letter name and give the page an edge. I also decided to enlarge the letter ‘L’ and place behind the interview, I did this by using the eyedropper tool and using the same grey as on the picture.
STEP 13 – I’ve decided to start writing up my exclusive interview
STEP 14 – I then ensured the text was in line with one another
STEP 15 – I realised the text needed to be size 12, so I had to write more of the article to ensure there was a good amount of content to read.
STEP 16 – I then added the content which filled the page how I planned
STEP 17 – I then made space of the page to place the pull quote in
STEP 18 – I then added the base line and pull quote
STEP 19 – I then changed the size of the deck to fit in line with the article below.

I used the clone tool
I used the clone tool to get rid of any unwanted hairs
I focused on the photography and used the dodge tool to make her cheeks glow.
I decided to use another image as the original image wasnt working.
I decided to experiment again and change the color of the Masthead to the color green.
I decided to make my magazine look simple but creative.Therefore, I decided to add a banner by using the rectangle tool I placed the rectangle over the original photography where I then used the gradient tool and dragged across to ensure the color had changed. I then used another rectangle tool inside or the outer rectangle then pressed delete which would leave me with the banner. After that, I has to ensure that the picture was
I decided to experiment with the layout and decided it would look better if the masthead was placed behind the models head rather than in the foreground. I did this by copying the photography layer and duplicated this. I then placed a new layer in between both the original layer and the duplicated layer. I then used the text tool and added it on the new layer and typed ‘STEEL’. I then used the rubber tool and rubbed out the areas on the duplicated layer which would give the effect that the Masthead is behind her head.

I then added the issue number and buzzword ‘FREE’ to encourage readers to pick up the issue. I still need to change the sizing and colour of ‘FREE’ and issue number
I then placed the font onto my main Photoshop document where I used the bucket tool to change the colour of my font to white where it would stand out on the green background box. Many conventional magazines have this.
I used the font ‘Poetsen One’ from the website ‘dafont’ where I used the snipping tool to copy the font then placed it into Photoshop where I had to delete the white background using the magic wand tool then pull it across into the main front cover image.
I decided to add a green box to fit in with the colour scheme of green as the models eyes are green and did this by using the rectangle tool then using the eyedropper tool to use the exact same colour green as the models eyes which I then used the paint bucket tool to finally fill in the masthead box.

Trial of fonts
The shadow made the front cover image look odd as the right side of the image has no shadow, therefore I needed to ensure that I would get rid of the shadow to ensure the magazine looks overall good. I attempted to do this by using the clone tool, however I had trouble getting rid of the shadow without making it look somewhat unprofessional.
I decided I needed to get rid of the spare hairs around the model using the cloning tool.
STEP 6
From asking my teacher about how I could cut out the image, I gained feedback and decided that the image didn’t need to be cut out and would leave the image as it’s present state. Therefore, I would ensure that I needed to edit the background.
STEP 5
I then attempted to cut the whole model out using the lasso tool which didn’t work out too well and left the image looking bad and unprofessional. Therefore, I needed to reconsider how I would leave the main front cover image. I attempted cutting around the image with different tools but didn’t make any difference.
STEP 4
I decided to get rid of the background using the magic tool which was the easiest way to get rid of unwanted pieces of an image. The magic tool was the easiest and quickest way to get rid of anything unwanted, however did not give a high quality finish and left the model image with jagged edges which made it look unprofessional.

I then decided to add the main front cover image into Photoshop which I would edit.

I then decided to add 4 pages on In Design as that is the amount of pages I will be creating for my magazine. There will be a front cover page, contents page and Double page spread which I aim to create either and advert and an article or double page spread interview of my main model on the front cover.
STEP 1
Firstly, I decided to create my In design document as that is the main programme I will be creating the Regional magazine on. I measured an original regional magazine which is the exact same measurement of an A4 sized piece of paper and pastiche the measurements in centre metres. I personally found In Design the easiest software to create a magazine as it has simple tools and amazing layouts.
